- Put any bank-card-sized card flat on a plain table that is a different colour from the card. Face down is fine, or cover your name and numbers.
- Rest your thumb right next to the card with the nail facing straight up, not turned on its side. It can touch the card's edge, but keep all four corners of the card clearly in view.
- Hold your phone directly above, about 30 cm away, in good light. Don't zoom in.
Your privacy. Your photo is only used to measure your thumb nail and is never saved by Studio Gloss. Your card is blanked out on your phone before anything is sent, so we never see it. To measure your nail, the photo is processed by our AI provider, OpenAI, which does not use it for training and deletes it within 30 days. Use your card face down, or any card that's the same size.

Doesn't look right?
Most wrong sizes come from the photo. Check that:
- your thumb is right next to the card with the nail facing straight up
- the card is on a plain surface and not covered by your thumb
- all four corners of the card are in the photo
- the phone is directly above, about 30 cm away, not tilted or zoomed
- the light is good and the photo isn't blurry
We measure your thumb nail at its widest point. If you're between sizes, we size you up.
Prefer to measure by hand?
- Lay a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper, across your thumb nail at its widest point. Tuck it into the sides so it follows the curve.
- Mark where each side of the nail sits, then read the width in millimetres against a ruler.
- Measure both thumbs and use the larger one. Your thumb sets the size for your whole set.

If you're between sizes, choose the larger one. A slightly loose nail files down easily, while one that is too tight won't sit flush. Under 13.5 mm, choose XS and file the sides for a closer fit.
